I'm a physical oceanographer and climate scientist at UNSW's Climate Change Research Centre. My research
explores how the ocean shapes climate variability and change, from shifts in large-scale circulation to the
dynamics and ecological consequences of marine heatwaves. I've worked on everything from biases in climate
models and Antarctic climate drivers to how warming oceans influence species distributions, including tuna
across the tropical Pacific. A major focus over the past decade has been understanding what triggers marine
heatwaves and how they impact marine ecosystems. I'm also drawn to clear, practical science communication and
developed an online climate simulator (carbonator.org) for students and the public. Recently I've been deep down
the AI rabbit hole, exploring how these tools are reshaping research and what that means for the future of
education and scientific training.
